Growing Creative Kids

“Once upon a time, in a land far, far away…” What kid doesn’t light up at the sound of those simple words? There’s nothing like a good story to make a child’s imagination soar. Stories open up a kid’s mind to all kinds of wonder and excitement—whether they’re hearing a story or telling one. But not all kids are instinctively creative. In an age of TV and video games, storytelling is quickly becoming a lost art—one that I think needs to be recaptured. Take time to read aloud to your kids. Maybe you can implement a weekly story time, and take turns reading to each other? Or make up your own stories. It’s a great chance to teach your kids how to develop simple plots and storylines, instead of letting their minds wander aimlessly. You’ll be amazed at how inventive kids can be with just a little encouragement.
