Many parents struggle with their child’s obedience and Christian parents especially, can fall into the trap of believing “perfect parenting results in perfect children.” As a young mum of three boys, Our guest, Jeannie Cunnion, realised her rules-based approach to parenting and life was only teaching her sons about the letter of the law, but it wasn’t reaching their young hearts with God’s love and how to become motivated followers of Jesus Christ. She doesn’t fault any of the popular rules-based strategies many parents use, such as sticker charts, jelly bean jars, family rules, etc. But instead, she urges mums and dads to parent our kids the same way that God parents us, with His grace. Kids need to know Christ’s sacrificial and unconditional love first, before they can truly understand the rationale for obeying Him and their parents.
